At the 2025 Asian Avant-Garde Film Festival (AAGFF), during a public talk featuring the legendary Tehching Hsieh, the Taiwanese master of time-based performance art reflected on questions about going through the flow of time as an artist, emphasising that ultimately, personal experiences determine how people experience and rationalise structures of time. Rather than a unified experience, time is disparate and contains multitudes. Hsieh referred to his own “lifeworks” as empty containers – or “time containers” that “anyone can fill.”
